Bittime Highlights Platform Legality and Consumer Protection

Jakarta, October 27, 2026 — Choosing a crypto asset trading platform requires more than simply considering its features and transaction convenience.

The operator's legal status, fund protection mechanisms, account security, and clarity of complaint-handling procedures are also important aspects to check before entrusting assets to a platform.

Bittime, a Digital Financial Asset Trader (PAKD) licensed and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), believes that consumer protection must be built through both operator compliance and user awareness.

Through its 3-in-1 ecosystem comprising Spot, Staking, and Futures, Bittime encourages users to understand the characteristics of each service and the risks associated with it.

Four Aspects to Consider When Assessing Crypto Platform Security

Security in digital asset trading involves several interconnected aspects.

Licensing status is one of the fundamental considerations, but users also need to understand how a platform manages operational risks and protects account information.

There are four aspects to check before choosing a crypto asset trading platform:

  1. Legality and licensing status. Check the operator's status through the regulator's official channels. Ensure that the company's legal name and licensing information match the official records.

  2. Fund protection and governance. Look for information about fund management mechanisms, internal controls, and policies related to protecting user assets.

  3. Account and transaction security. Use a strong, unique password, enable additional authentication where available, and never share one-time passwords (OTPs) or authentication information with anyone else.

  4. Complaint handling and transparency. Understand the customer service channels, procedures for reporting problems, and information about fees, transaction terms, and the risks of each product.

Bittime Chief Operating Officer Ryan Lymn stated that user trust is not solely related to the technology being used, but also to governance and an understanding of consumer protection.

“A platform's legal status is an important consideration, but users also need to understand how the service works, the risks that may arise, and the steps they can take when problems occur. Informed decisions begin with checking these aspects before making transactions,” Ryan said.

Global Cases Highlight the Importance of Internal Controls

The importance of governance and fund protection was also reflected in an enforcement action announced by the Central Bank of Ireland against Coinbase Ireland on October 22, 2026.

According to the regulator's announcement, a €3.25 million fine was imposed in connection with breaches of customer fund safeguarding obligations and outsourcing governance requirements. The sanction remains subject to confirmation by the High Court.

The case highlights the consequences that can arise when internal controls do not function as intended. In financial services, fund protection mechanisms and operational oversight are important components of efforts to safeguard consumer interests.

For digital asset users, this case is a reminder not to judge a platform solely by its reputation or popularity. Information about the company, regulatory status, governance, and consumer protection policies should also be taken into consideration.

Nevertheless, a case involving one operator should not be taken as an indication that all platforms have the same conditions. Each platform should be assessed based on information and requirements relevant to that specific operator.

Fraud Prevention and Response Data in Indonesia

In Indonesia, efforts to address fraud and protect consumers also involve coordination among multiple institutions.

In its September 2026 Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting press release, OJK reported five incidents involving the Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets ecosystem during August–September 2026.

The response included monitoring unusual transactions, freezing accounts suspected of being linked to the incidents, and efforts to recover funds through inter-agency coordination.

The same press release recorded that, as of September 30, 2026, the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) had received 702,342 reports. A total of 702,833 accounts had been blocked, with Rp811.1 billion in victim funds successfully blocked and Rp207.16 billion returned to victims.

These figures demonstrate the significant need for fraud prevention and response efforts.

However, funds successfully blocked are not the same as funds that have been returned to victims. Therefore, users still need to take precautions before transferring money or granting others access to their accounts.

Ryan emphasized the importance of making information verification a habit before conducting transactions.

“Users should be wary of parties promising unrealistic returns, asking for OTPs, or directing transactions through unofficial channels. If suspicious activity is detected, contact the platform through its official customer service channels immediately and report it to the authorities through the available channels,” Ryan said.

Users should also ensure that the website addresses and communication accounts they access genuinely belong to the relevant operator. Messages impersonating customer service, urgent requests to transfer funds, and unfamiliar links should be checked carefully before taking any action.

Understanding the Risks of Each Digital Asset Service

Consumer protection extends beyond account security. Understanding product characteristics is also essential because each service carries different risks.

Within the Bittime ecosystem, Spot, Staking, and Futures operate through different mechanisms.

Spot transactions involve buying or selling crypto assets, while Staking has its own terms regarding the assets used, duration, returns, and applicable risks.

Futures allows users to take positions based on anticipated price movements, but it also carries the risk of losses and liquidation, especially when leverage is used.

Therefore, users should read the terms of each service before trading. Information about fees, withdrawal mechanisms, lock-up periods where applicable, and product risks should be understood in advance.

“Each service has its own characteristics that need to be understood separately. Users should consider not only potential returns, but also product mechanisms, fees, and the possibility of losses. This understanding is part of responsible decision-making,” Ryan said.

As a PAKD licensed and supervised by OJK, Bittime considers compliance and user education integral to its service development. Bittime also continues to strengthen its technology infrastructure, security systems, and customer support to help safeguard transactions and address user needs.

Nevertheless, licensing status and the implementation of security systems do not eliminate all market, technology, or operational risks. Users must continue to protect their accounts and understand service terms before making decisions.

Ultimately, consumer protection in crypto assets requires both operators and users to play their part. Checking legal status, understanding product mechanisms, and maintaining good account security practices can help users make more informed decisions.
