Tezos Revives New Plans Through Tezos X Roadmap!
2024-07-11
Bittime - Tezos is back with new enthusiasm! They just launched the Tezos X Roadmap. What is it? Listen to the explanation!
Tezos Introduces Tezos X
Recently, the Tezos development team introduced “Tezos X".
The development plan for the next two years, outlined in the Tezos X roadmap, focuses on separating transaction execution into separate "canonical rollups."
This rollup will later support atomic transactions between smart contracts. It is written in various programming languages.
While the main Tezos blockchain will serve as the base layer for consensus and transaction settlement. The development team behind Tezos X comes from Nomadic Labs, TriliTech, and Functori.
History of Tezos
It should be remembered, Tezos, which was founded by husband and wife team Arthur and Kathleen Breitman, was a star in its time. Fundraising through ICO in 2017 broke records with a fantastic gain of $232 million (around IDR 3.8 trillion).
This project is even predicted to be Ethereum's strongest competitor in the smart contract blockchain realm.
However, as time went by, Tezos struggled to maintain its position at the top. The market capitalization of its XTZ token is currently only around $749 million (around IDR 12.3 trillion).
This ranks it 80th based on CoinDesk data. The price of the XTZ token itself is now 92% below its all-time high.
The Tezos developers are aware of this. Since 2022, they have begun to aggressively push to increase the scalability of the Tezos network.
"Our main strategy is Smart Rollups, a scaling technology where an optimized second layer specifically handles transaction execution," they wrote in a blog post.
“While consensus and transaction settlement remain guaranteed” by the layer-1 blockchain.
Important Features in the Tezos X Roadmap
Another important feature is a dedicated data availability layer on the Tezos main network. The Tezos
Ethereum moves transaction execution to an additional layer-2 network. New "modular" components are also emerging to handle other functions previously performed by the Ethereum main chain, such as efficient storage of large amounts of data.
"To increase scalability while maintaining decentralization, Tezos has evolved from a monolithic to a modular design," explains the blog post.
"With modular design, groups of interconnected nodes take on different roles – all while maintaining an integrated experience for developers and users."
The main difference in the Tezos plan lies in the handling of transaction execution. Tezos' plan uses a single rollup instead of multiple layer-2 networks as implemented by Ethereum.
"In theory, only one rollup is needed to meet most needs, except for extreme use cases," the blog post states.
"That's what Tezos X envisions: creating a single canonical rollup capable of handling – and massively expanding – all activity on the Tezos network."
Based on this plan, the canonical rollup is expected to arrive in 2026.
