Bittime Highlights Futures Growth After Indonesia Enters Top 15 in Crypto Adoption
2026-10-01
Jakarta, September 30, 2026 — Bittime, a Digital Financial Asset Trader (PAKD) registered with and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), highlights the growth potential of the Futures market in Indonesia following the country's inclusion among the top 15 countries in global crypto adoption.
This development strengthens Indonesia's connection with the global ecosystem, including opportunities to develop products such as Futures, in line with Bittime's commitment as the Gateway for Indonesia to Global Assets.
According to the 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index from Chainalysis, Indonesia ranks 14th out of 117 countries and 10th for cross-border flows.
This position reflects the significant level of digital asset activity in Indonesia while also highlighting the country's growing connection to the global ecosystem. Chainalysis also ranks Indonesia 11th for total flows, 12th for balances, and 13th for domestic peer-to-peer activity.
“Indonesia's position among the top 15 countries in global crypto adoption shows that the domestic digital asset ecosystem has a strong base of activity. At the same time, there is still room to deepen the market, including through the development of products such as Futures, education, and risk awareness so that ecosystem growth can take place sustainably,” said Bittime Chief Operating Officer, Ryan Lymn.
Derivatives as an Area for Growth
One area that still has room for development is digital financial asset derivatives trading. Globally, derivatives activity has become an important part of the crypto asset market.
Cboe recorded crypto derivatives notional volume of approximately US$111.5 trillion in 2025, compared with approximately US$25.3 trillion in spot trading, or around 4.4 times larger. Cboe notes that derivatives are playing an increasingly important role in price discovery and risk transfer in digital asset markets.
The scale of global Futures activity is supported by several characteristics of the instrument. Coinbase Institutional explains that perpetual futures have become one of the most actively traded instruments in the global crypto market, with uses including directional trading, hedging, and arbitrage. Perpetual futures also allow market participants to gain exposure to price movements without directly purchasing the underlying asset.
In addition, the availability of various trading pairs expands the range of assets and strategies available to market participants. Margin and leverage mechanisms can also allow capital to be used more efficiently, although they can simultaneously amplify the impact of price movements on a user's position.
Cboe explains that derivatives can provide exposure to crypto assets through margin mechanisms while also being used for hedging and risk management.
In Indonesia, derivatives activity still has room to grow. According to the OJK Press Release on the Results of the Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting on August 26, 2026, crypto asset transaction value during July 2026 reached Rp20.52 trillion, down 28.20% month-to-month from Rp28.58 trillion in June 2026.
Meanwhile, digital financial asset (AKD) derivatives transaction value reached Rp3.41 trillion, down 18.53% from Rp4.19 trillion in June 2026.
“The development of Futures in Indonesia can become part of the deepening of the digital asset market, as it provides market participants with different instrument choices. However, this growth needs to go hand in hand with education on margin, leverage, volatility, and risk management so that users understand the characteristics and risks of the product before trading,” said Ryan.
Market Participants Highlight the Development of Indonesia's Futures Ecosystem
From the perspective of market participants, developing Futures is not only about increasing trading activity, but also about the readiness of the ecosystem in terms of regulation, technology, access, and education.
“In my view, there are several areas that need to be developed for the crypto Futures market in Indonesia to advance further. Regulatory clarity and a competitive tax structure are important to provide traders with greater confidence and encourage trading activity on local platforms. From the platform side, beginner-friendly UI/UX, risk management features such as stop-loss and take-profit, as well as convenient deposits and withdrawals through Rupiah, QRIS, e-wallets, and local banks, can also make Futures more accessible,” said Alexander Brian, a full-time trader.
Alexander added that Futures education should also cover risk management and trading psychology, rather than focusing solely on technical strategies for determining entry points.
“Users also need to understand the importance of stop-loss, position sizing to limit risk, as well as emotional control to avoid falling into FOMO and overtrading. Understanding leverage, liquidation price, margin call, and funding rate is also important before using a live account,” Alexander continued.
Futures Development and Diversification of the Digital Asset Ecosystem
The development of the global Futures market shows that derivatives are not only used to take positions on price direction.
CME Group notes that the use of crypto Futures and options products is also related to the need to manage exposure and risk amid market dynamics, including for hedging and trading strategies.
In the first half of 2026, CME's cryptocurrency products recorded an average daily volume of 280,000 contracts, up 44% compared with the same period a year earlier.
For Indonesia, the development of Futures instruments is part of the increasingly diverse range of options within the digital asset ecosystem. Bittime Futures launched in July 2026 after receiving approval from PT Central Finansial X (CFX), becoming part of Bittime's 3-in-1 ecosystem that includes Spot, Staking, and Futures on a single platform.
Product expansion is also taking place across other asset categories. In line with developments in global markets, digital assets now encompass various categories, ranging from mainstream crypto assets and stablecoins to Real World Assets (RWA) and tokenized assets.
Bittime as the Gateway for Indonesia to Global Assets
The development of RWA is one of the areas that is also creating opportunities for diversification within Indonesia's digital asset ecosystem.
At Bittime, trading activity for Tokenized U.S. Stocks increased 2.5 times in July 2026 compared with June 2026. Bittime currently offers 34 Tokenized U.S. Stocks, including MSTRX, CRCLX, TSLAX, NVDAX, and SPYX.
“As Indonesia becomes increasingly connected to the global digital asset ecosystem, we see the importance of providing access to a wider range of products while continuing to prioritize education, consumer protection, risk management, and regulatory compliance. For us, ecosystem growth is not only about increasing transaction activity, but also about how that access can develop responsibly,” said Ryan.
As the Gateway for Indonesia to Global Assets, Bittime will continue developing a digital asset ecosystem that connects Indonesian users with various categories of digital assets while supporting market development through education, product innovation, and the application of prudent principles.
