Tonkeeper Presents Signer, a New Application to Improve Crypto Asset Security
2024-08-08
Bittime – Tonkeeper has just launched Signer, a new security application designed to protect users' crypto assets. This launch is a positive signal to protect users.
Purpose of Launched Signer
The launch of the Ton application aims to address significant risks related to private key management, which have been widely discussed in connection with recent hacks.
By securely storing and operating private keys through the Signer app, Tonkeeper wants to help reduce the risk of exploits like the one that occurred in the $10 million Li.Fi hack.
In a written Q&A interview with Cointelegraph, Daniel Cawrey, Chief Strategy Officer at Tonkeeper, explained that app users will have "an extra layer of security to help protect against theft, fraud, or mistaken transactions."

Security for Crypto Assets
A press release shared with Cointelegraph states that the Signer app will allow Tonkeeper users to manage their private keys more securely.
Cawrey explains that "because the private key is encrypted in Signer and stored outside the wallet, it is much more difficult for assets to be stolen or an erroneous transaction to occur accidentally."
"We don't want new users or experienced users, anyone really, to fall victim to fraud or private key errors that many of us early adopters have experienced."
How Signers Work?
According to a press release, the new Tonkeeper app will allow users to choose one of two in-app modes that best suits their needs.
- Comfort Mode: Enables users to pair Signer with the Tonkeeper wallet app on a single device, providing easy access for signing transactions.
- Maximum Security Mode: Allows users to use a separate offline ("air-gapped") device without internet access to sign QR code transactions.
These two modes provide different levels of security, allowing users to choose the option that suits their needs and comfort level.
Regarding the security of new users in the crypto world, Cawrey suggests that they "make sure to store their seed phrase in a secure location where it won't be lost or forgotten."
"Even the most experienced and sophisticated users in this space have made mistakes saving/losing private keys or signed incorrect transactions."

New Ton Smart Wallet Standard
On July 25, the Ton Core team launched the W5 smart wallet standard in collaboration with Tonkeeper to facilitate gasless transactions on The Open Network (TON) blockchain.
This update allows users to use Tether USDT $1.00 for gas fees for USDT transfers and Notcoin for gas fees when transferring Notcoin (NOT).
Tonkeeper Signer: A Step Forward in Crypto Asset Security
Tonkeeper, a non-custodial wallet provider for the TON blockchain, has taken an important step in enhancing the security of users' crypto assets with the launch of the Signer app.
This application is designed to overcome one of the main weaknesses in crypto asset storage, namely private key management.
By storing private keys separately and securely, Signer provides an additional layer of protection against potential cyberattacks and user error.
Signer's Positive Impact
Tonkeeper's introduction of Signer is a positive step in the crypto industry. By increasing the security of users' assets, these applications can help build trust among the crypto community.
Additionally, this move could also encourage wider adoption of the TON blockchain.
However, it is important to remember that the security of crypto assets is the user's primary responsibility.
While Signer offers an additional layer of protection, users should still follow security best practices, such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and avoiding phishing.
