Watch out! Hamster Kombat Becomes Target of Phishing Attacks and Fake Airdrops

Bittime - Watch out, Hamster Kombat players must be careful! This popular Telegram-based game is being targeted by cybercriminals. Kaspersky, a well-known cybersecurity company, revealed a phishing attack targeting Hamster Kombat players.

Fraud Mode in Hamster Kombat

The method used is quite cunning. These criminals entice players with the promise of exchanging game coins for cash (rubles in this case) via phishing links. The link tricks players into entering their Telegram account credentials.

"Our team has uncovered a series of fraudulent schemes targeting Hamster Kombat users," said security expert Olga Svistunova. 

"In one scheme, criminals lured victims with the lure of exchanging game coins for cash via phishing links that asked for Telegram login credentials."

Once players are duped and enter their credentials, these criminals can gain full account access. As a result, players' personal data can be stolen, accounts can be hacked, and perpetrators can send fraudulent messages to player contacts. 

This attack initially targeted users in Russia. However, this does not rule out the possibility that it could spread to other countries.

Fake Airdrops Target Players' Crypto Wallets

Apart from phishing, Hamster Kombat players are also targeted with fake airdrop attacks. This mode offers a fake airdrop (free distribution) of Hamster cryptocurrency (HMSTR) to steal players' crypto wallet credentials. Kaspersky again warns of this danger.

Criminals exploit the lure of free crypto by offering fake airdrops of Hamster crypto assets. It aims to steal users' crypto wallet information. 

"In addition, they also created a phishing website that claimed to sell Hamster crypto at a discount, and tricked users into giving them access to their crypto wallets," explained Svistunova.

The popularity of the HMSTR token itself is increasing, especially after it was listed for trading on the Bybit exchange on July 8. This increase in interest is what makes this token an easy target for cybercriminals.

Phishing attacks themselves are increasingly worrying, especially on new blockchains. For example, phishing attacks on the Base blockchain jumped 1,900% in March compared to January. As a result, crypto theft through phishing has increased drastically, up to 18 times.
