ZKsync Airdrop: Explanation of Different Airdrop Recipient Eligibility
2024-06-22
Bittime - The recent ZKsync airdrop generated a lot of buzz and questions. This guide aims to explain the process, eligibility criteria, and allocation decisions, all rewritten to avoid plagiarism and improve readability.
How to Eligibility:
There are two main paths to receiving tokens in the 17.5% user-based airdrop:
Users (89%) : Those who bridge crypto assets to ZKsync Era and meet at least one of seven specific criteria.
Contributors (11%) : Individuals or entities who actively contribute to the ZKsync protocol and ecosystem through development, advocacy, education, or participation, regardless of their use of the ZKsync network.
For contributors, using ZKsync Era is not mandatory. This category recognizes early project builders, GitHub contributors, security researchers, Discord moderators, and specific community members such as Degen, Bonsai, Crypto the Game, Pudgy, and Milady.
Understanding Usage Based Allocation
User-based allocation (89% of total airdrop) aims to identify and reward diverse active ZKsync Era users who will contribute to the growth of the platform. The focus is on users who bridge crypto assets and receive bonus multipliers for actions that demonstrate organic usage. These actions signal a long-term commitment to the ecosystem.
A user’s transaction history across chains can reveal a lot. Real users tend to be more risk-tolerant, especially in supportive communities. They actively explore new protocols, hold speculative assets, and invest time in understanding the ecosystem. In contrast, opportunistic bots prioritize minimal effort and blend in with real users to extract value.
Why You Might Not Receive Your Airdrop Allocation?
Several factors influence users' airdrop allocation (89% of total airdrops):
Number of Eligibility Criteria Met: While important, this is only one factor.
Time-Weighted Average Balance (TWAB): This measures the average amount of crypto assets held in your ZKsync Era wallet over a certain period.
Bonus Multiplier: Holding certain NFTs/tokens or participating in previous airdrops like ARB, OP, ENS can increase your allocation.
Transaction volume alone does not directly affect allocation.
To qualify for allocation, the combined score based on these factors must exceed the minimum threshold (ZK 450). Even if you meet all seven criteria, a smaller average balance or lack of a bonus multiplier may disqualify you.
Overcoming Airdrop Allocation Differences
If someone with fewer eligibility criteria receives a larger allocation, it could be for several reasons:
Larger TWAB: They may have bridged larger amounts of crypto assets or held them for a longer period of time.
Bonus Multiplier: They may qualify for bonuses by holding certain assets or being part of a contributor category.
Explanation of Value Scaling
Airdrop uses a “value scaling” formula to reward users for actively using ZKsync Era. This formula takes into account the number of crypto assets being bridged and the duration of their holding in the wallet.
For example, an address that bridged $100 to ZKsync Era at launch (March 2023) and held it since then will receive a higher allocation compared to one that bridged $100 just a month before the snapshot.
Why ZKsync Lite Users Are Excluded
To be eligible for a user-based airdrop, users need to meet at least one criteria and bridge crypto assets to ZKsync Era. The focus will be on ZKsync Era, the first ZK chain, as it will be the center of the entire ZKsync ecosystem.
ZKsync Lite users receive recognition as early adopters (up to two eligibility points). However, they must also have used ZKsync Era. Users who only interact with ZKsync Lite are not eligible for user-based airdrops.
Addresses with 0 Transactions Why Still Get Airdrops?
Airdrops are divided into two categories: user-based (89%) and contributor-based (11%). Wallets in the contributor category do not require ZKsync Era activity. This category recognizes individuals who build early projects on ZKsync, contribute to relevant GitHub repositories, conduct security research, moderate Discord communities, or participate in specific communities. There is also a small number of test addresses (11) included for internal quality assurance and then burned.
Respecting External Communities
A small portion (2.8%) of the airdrop was allocated to experimental on-chain communities such as Degen, Bonsai, Crypto the Game, Pudgy, and Milady. These communities are known for their dedication to the ZKsync ecosystem and alignment with ZK Nation values.
